For currently enrolled LSUHS students
Course Achievement Program (CAP)
The Office for Student and Community Engagement (OSCE) is dedicated to promoting student success. As part of this commitment, the Course Achievement Program (CAP) is a key initiative that allows OSCE to purchase additional educational resources, ensuring our students have the support they need to pass their coursework. This program aims to improve course completion, which in turn impacts retention and graduation rates.
PROCESS
- As part of the Course Achievement Program, students are encouraged to proactively notify the Office for Student and Community Engagement about their educational needs. This step empowers you to take charge of your learning journey.
- The students will complete an online application to request their educational resources.
- The assistant vice chancellor for student and community engagement will carefully consider each request to ensure fairness and opportunity. This approval process is designed to support your academic needs.
- The student is required to sign for the receipt of the educational resource.

Student Emotional Engagement (SEE)
The SEE program is a collaborative effort of the Office for Student and Community Engagement (OSCE) and the Center for Medical Education (CME) in promoting student development. Through activities designed to build positive relationships with faculty and peers and enhance learning outside the classroom, we aim to foster emotional engagement. The program, open to students from all institutional educational programs, is scheduled for the fall or spring semester. The expected outcome is to gain a deep understanding of the students and faculty’s thoughts and identify potential themes that impact student success.
PROCESS
- The project manager, in close collaboration with the medical communication department, creates the promotional material for the SEE program.
- Each school's associate/assistant dean shares the registration link with their students.
- The registration link is live for four weeks.
- OSCE takes the responsibility of recording proof of attendance in the Office for Student and Community Engagement, ensuring transparency and accountability in the SEE program.

Student Professional Development Assistance Program
The Student Professional Development Assistance Program (SPDAP) is dedicated to promoting professional development. This key initiative supports students who have been accepted to national conferences as a presenter or board member, ensuring our students have the financial support to participate in opportunities that support their development outside of the classroom. The expected outcome is to improve student's communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills, to support their professional goals.
PROCESS
- Students will complete an online application to request financial assistance for their conference and provide details supporting their request. This request MUST be submitted no later than 60 days prior to conference dates.
- The assistant vice chancellor for student and community engagement will carefully consider each request to ensure fairness and opportunity. This approval process is designed to ensure all students have an opportunity to participate in this program.
- If approved, the student is required to provide all necessary documents for arrangements and sign the approval documentation for their arrangements.
- The student is required to submit all documentation for reimbursement no later than 15 days after the conference, including all receipts for approved conference expenses.
