MEDICAL SCHOOL ADVISING (MSA)

This office provides continuous support and guidance, ensuring you are on the right track towards your goals. Medical School Advising is a personalized opportunity for any prospective medical student to meet with the assistant vice chancellor for student and community engagement. This is a chance to discuss and tailor strategies for achieving your personal, educational, and career goals.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The prospective student is interested in LSU Health Shreveport's Medical Education Program.

STRATEGIES
Students are required to create, update, and maintain an accurate Medical School Action Plan.

   

MEDICAL COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TEST (MCAT) WORKHOP

LSU Health Shreveport's six-week online preparatory MCAT course guided by KAPLAN is a promising opportunity that can significantly enhance the college readiness of prospective medical students. The program, only available in the spring and summer semesters of the academic year, currently accommodates 25 participants.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
3.5 with a 498 previous MCAT score or a 3.8 with no previous MCAT score.

AMERICAN MEDICAL COLLEGE APPLICATION SERVICE (AMCAS) WORKSHOP

The American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) is the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) centralized medical school application processing service. LSU Health Shreveport's Office of Student and Community Engagement hosts an annual two-day AMCAS Workshop, a virtual college and career readiness activity that welcomes all in-state or out-of-state pre-med students. This personalized advice can significantly enhance their understanding of the medical school application process and increase their chances of a successful application. Faculty, residents, medical students, and staff members guide prospective medical students in drafting and submitting a competitive medical school application, with the aim of increasing the number of students who apply and matriculate into LSU Health Shreveport Medical School.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
There are no academic metric requirements.

VIRTUAL MOCK INTERVIEWS 

The Office for Student and Community Engagement partners with the Faculty Senate to offer Virtual Mock Interviews for medical school. This experience allows a prospective student the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills and professional behaviors. The student completes and submits the online LSUHS Virtual Mock Interview Application.  Interviews are conducted by faculty members, physicians in the community, or past admissions committee members. This career readiness activity will assist the institution with achieving strategic enrollment and healthcare workforce initiatives. The expected outcome is that the student will develop a level of comfort in communicating their service to the community, and their educational and clinical experiences with academic professionals and gain acceptance into medical school.
