31 new honorees were inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society on March 2, 2024. This international honor society recognizes those who practice patient-centered care by displaying qualities of excellence, compassion, altruism, respect and empathy.

LSU Health Shreveport is home to the only medical school in north Louisiana and one of only three in the state. We are excited to announce that Qihui "Jim" Zhai, MD, FCAP (Professor and Chair of Pathology and Translational Pathobiology at LSUHS) is the newly elected President-elect of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Dr. Zhai was inaugurated at a meeting of the membership on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
Benjamin K. Mizell, MD, an anesthesiologist with a proven track record of leading major Mass Eye and Ear initiatives including its electronic medical record integration, has been named chief of Anesthesia at Mass Eye and Ear. Dr. Mizell is a graduate of the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine.
September 30, 2022 was Sleep Medicine Day at LSUHS in honor of Dr. Andrew L. Chesson, Jr. which included a Grand Rounds lecture by Dr. Chesson followed by the Sleep Medicine Center naming ceremony.
Dr. Cherie-Ann Nathan was inducted as the newly installed President of Academic Departments of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery on November 13, 2021.

The American Heart Association (AHA), the largest voluntary health organization fighting heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases, announces Dr. Steven Bailey, MD, MSCAI, MACP, FACC, as chair of the 2021Northwest Louisiana (NWLA) Heart Walk. He has been extremely active with the AHA as an advocate, educator, and fundraiser locally and in San Antonio prior to his move to Louisiana.

Dr. Steven R. Bailey, Chairman of Internal Medicine at LSUHS, has been named by the American College of Physicians (ACP) Awards Committee as a 2021 Mastership recipient. Dr. Bailey is only the fourth member of the LSU Health Shreveport faculty and one of only fifteen Louisiana physicians to have received this prestigious designation.
Congratulations to Dr. Cherie-Ann Nathan, Chair of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery, for being selected as a 2020 American Cancer Association Society Champion of Hope. Dr. Nathan is a nationally recognized and respected leader in the field of head and neck cancer and is once again is making LSU Health Shreveport proud of her accomplishments as a clinician, scientist and educator.
Dr. Fox was honored as Physician Leader of the Year at the Ochsner Spirit of Leadership Awards ceremony, recognized for leading one of the finest anesthesiology programs in the country, effectively implementing new safety protocols and in reducing opioid consumption.
Marlene Broussard, MD, MBA, Associate Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Shreveport, is one of the country’s first board certified Pediatric Hospital Medicine Specialists.
