The Doctor of Philosophy degree is conferred only for work of distinction in which the student displays original scholarship. This is accomplished through conduct of a dissertation project in which a student identifies a significant problem, designs experimental approaches to solving this problem, and communicates her or his results to the scientific community. We celebrate the accomplishments of our students and put forth our best effort to help them to be successful while at LSU Health Shreveport. Explore our programs below and click this link for information on applying to one of our outstanding graduate programs.

Students are our number one priority and they start working in labs during their first semester. With a student-to-faculty ratio of almost 1:1, every student receives a personalized and collaborative education and training experience.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

This PhD program emphasizes research training to prepare the student for a challenging scientific career, directing original independent research activities. During the first two years, students take courses in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Methods, Statistics, Protein Structure, and Scientific Writing. Advanced electives include courses in cell signaling, post-transcriptional control, transcriptional control, classical and molecular genetics, and bioinformatics.  LEARN MORE about the Graduate Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Cellular Biology and Anatomy

This PhD program provides students with the training that will allow them to develop a research career in a setting of their choosing, whether in academia in a University / Medical School setting or in an Industrial / Pharmaceutical Research setting. It also includes preparation of a grant proposal for pursuing original research of distinction, conducting the research, presentations of the research in seminars and at conferences, participation in journal clubs, and writing a dissertation. LEARN MORE about the Graduate Program in Cellular Biology and Anatomy

Microbiology and Immunology

This PhD program is designed to educate students in the art and science of biomedical research, and to give him/her the experience and training needed to become an independent scientist. We offer state-of-the-art training in microbiology, immunology, virology, molecular biology, cancer research, pathogenesis of infectious diseases, and related disciplines. Students that graduate from our Program receive excellent preparation for a future in biomedical research and have gone on to successful careers. LEARN MORE about the Graduate Program in Microbiology and Immunology

Molecular and Cellular Physiology
