LSU HEALTH SHREVEPORT COMMENCEMENT

LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS) hosted its largest commencement in the institution’s history with 224 students receiving a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD or Doctorate degree. This 50^th commencement milestone began on May 26, 1973, when 31 medical students received the first Doctorate degrees given by then, LSU School of Medicine.

In honor of the School of Medicine’s 50^th anniversary of the first graduating class, the Class of 1973 lead the procession and were recognized at the ceremony. In addition, each of the 50^th School of Medicine class graduates received a handwritten note from the Class of 1973.

“It is an important and noteworthy milestone to have reached the 50^th anniversary of the School of Medicine particularly due to the steadfast advocacy and support required to bring this institution to fruition all those years ago. We remain indebted and accountable to all those who paved the way for our growing and vibrant academic medical center which now includes three professional schools along with continually expanding degree programs. We are very excited to have Dr. David Fajgenbaum as our student-selected keynote speaker on this momentous occasion of our 50^th commencement ceremony. His impressive and lofty goals and accomplishments will serve as a lasting inspiration to our students and anyone in attendance,” stated Dr. David Guzick, Chancellor of LSU Health Shreveport.

Graduation for all three of LSU Health Shreveport’s professional schools took place in a combined ceremony held at the Shreveport Convention Center on Saturday, May 20 at 10 am. Valencia Sarpy-Jones and Randy Morris represented the LSU Board of Supervisors assisting in the conferring of degrees.

Twelve students graduated with a PhD and 6 with a Master’s from the School of Graduate Studies; 63 students received a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree from the School of Allied Health Professions; and 143 students graduated from the School of Medicine with their Doctor of Medicine.

May 21, 2022

206 LSU Health Shreveport students representing the largest graduating class to date celebrated the culmination of hundreds of hours of academic accomplishment by graduating with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or Doctorate degree on May 21, 2022. Four students received a PhD from the School of Graduate Studies; 65 students received a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate from the School of Allied Health Professions; and 137 students graduated from the School of Medicine and become Doctors of Medicine. Dr. William F. Tate IV, President of LSU gave the keynote commencement address.

“I am honored, both as a university president and epidemiologist, to speak to the graduating classes at LSU Health Shreveport,” said LSU President William F. Tate IV. “These talented graduates will go on to meet the growing demands for such critical fields as allied health and medicine, and in the process further LSU’s reputation as one of the top providers of healthcare professionals in the state, region, and country. I look forward to the opportunity to share this special moment with them.”

On Friday, May 21, 198 LSU Health Shreveport students celebrated the culmination of hundreds of hours of academic accomplishment by graduating with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or Doctorate degree. Many among that graduating class of 2021 call the Shreveport-Bossier area their home. Twelve students received a PhD or Master’s degree from the School of Graduate Studies; 71 students received a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate from the School of Allied Health Professions; and 115 students graduated from the School of Medicine and become Doctors of Medicine.
