The Gulf Coast Vascular Research Consortium is the annual conference highlighting cutting edge research in Vascular Biology from world-renowned laboratories across the Gulf Coast region. By bringing together a critical mass of scientific pioneers and educators, the annual Gulf Coast Vascular Research Consortium will facilitate knowledge transfer, novel insights and new collaborations. Malcolm Feist Seminar Series

The CCDS provides a Cardiovascular seminar series along with lunch on the first Monday of each month at 12:00 pm in the Zadeck conference room (G-221).  Organized by Dr. Karen Stokes and Dr. Shenu Bhuiyan, this series will include leading cardiovascular and cerebrovascular scientists and clinicians from across the U.S.

CCDS Symposium

The CCDS presents this full-day event in the month of February. It begins with a networking breakfast, followed by the morning session with talks given by LSU Health Shreveport trainees and faculty, and featuring a guest speaker. The CCDS Annual Meeting is held over lunchtime, with all CCDS members welcome to join and hear the latest news from the CCDS. A poster session is held after lunch, followed by an afternoon session with talks by LSU Health Shreveport trainees and faculty, culminating in the Annual Malcolm Feist Clinical and Translational Lecture. The day finishes with awards given for best posters.

Translational Cardiovascular Series

The CCDS presents the Translational Cardiovascular Series (with lunch provided), held quarterly at 12:00 pm in the Zadeck conference room (G-221). Organized by Randa Eshaq, PhD and Aakash Sheth, MD, this series will pair an LSU Health Shreveport Postdoctoral Fellow with an LSU Health Shreveport Resident, who will give presentations in key areas of cardiovascular biology, including large artery disease, endo-vascularization, heart failure, ischemic stroke, and lymphatics. During this series, the resident will present a twenty-minute presentation outlining their view of the disease topic, along with current therapies and problems facing the field; this will be followed by a twenty-minute presentation by a postdoctoral fellow in basic science on how their work is seeking to solve these clinical issues.

Cardiovascular Training Group

The CVTG will take place each month on the Tuesday prior to the week of the Cardiovascular seminar series at 9:00 a.m. in the physiology conference room (4-201).  The mission of the CVTG is to provde an opportunity for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and residents to gain better understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology.  Dr. Karen Stokes will preside over relevant literature discussions from key articles provided by the CCDS invited seminar speaker. 

Biomedical Research and Industry Day (BRAID)

BRAID is hosted by a partnership between the Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Sciences (CCDS), Center for Brain Health (CBH), and Louisiana Addiction Research Center (LARC), at LSU Health Shreveport, and Louisiana State University-Shreveport (LSUS), in collaboration with University of Louisiana Monroe and the Innovation Enterprise at Louisiana Tech University.

The target audience for this annual conference includes students, trainees, scientists, and clinicians conducting biomedical research who are interested in the interface between the laboratory and industry. There will be talks from scientific and industry experts, talks from trainees, and networking workshops will be available.

ArkLaTex Cardiology Conference

The 18th Annual Joe E. Holoubek Ark-La-Tex Cardiovascular Conference was held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Shreveport Convention Center.  The Joe E. Holoubek, MD, endowed Professorship was started by the Holoubek family of Shreveport in honor of Dr. Holoubek.  Dr. Holoubek was the first internist to establish proace of Clinical Cardiology in the Shreveport-Bossier community.  He was also instrumental in etablishing the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport.  The annual Ark-La-Tex Cardiovascular Conference is held in honor of the late Dr. Joe Holoubek.
