Apply for the Cardiothoracic Surgery PA Fellowship

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be graduates of an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program and be eligible for (or have passed) the NCCPA board exam. Fellows must obtain a Louisiana License upon acceptance into the program. A criminal background check and a urine drug screen will be performed as a part of the pre-employment requirements for final selected candidates. Any offer of fellowship is contingent on final candidates successfully completing the standard LSUHS pre-employment checks and clinical credentialing process prior to matriculation. Current ACLS certification is required.

Selection Criteria
Fellows will be selected based on the following:

  1. Work and Life Experience (surgical experience is not required, but some prior exposure to cardiothoracic surgery is considered important.)
  2. Education / Academic Records
  3. Letters of Recommendation
  4. Personal Statement
  5. Communication / Interpersonal Skills
    • Completion & Submission of all Application Components
    • Personal Interview (Applicants will be screened for a limited number of interview slots based on materials submitted.)

HOW TO APPLY

Applications must include the following:

  • A recent copy of your curriculum vitae (CV) / resume including school name and GPA
  • A brief personal statement describing your interest in pursuing a career in Cardiothoracic (500 to 1,000 words)
  • Three letters of reference on letterhead
    • These can be submitted by you with your other application materials or directly by your          references to the Program Manager at CT-PAFellow@lsuhs.edu. Letters can                  be addressed to the LSUHS - Department of Surgery Team.
    • If you are currently enrolled in a PA program, one reference must be from your Program or    Medical director.
    • Unofficial Transcripts of PA Program completion.

Note: All materials must be received to be considered for an initial phone interview. Second interviews will take place onsite at LSU Health Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The anticipated start date is November 2022 (the exact date will be coordinated with selected candidates based on your licensing and credentialing timeline).
