Key Characteristics
One-on-One Teaching:
Fellows see a multitude of patients and are supervised closely by faculty. During each fellow’s assigned monthly rotation s/he will be guided by at least one attending faculty.
Research Experience:
All fellows are given a 3-month block of dedicated research rotation during which they work with an overseeing faculty member.
Large, Diverse Patient Base with Wide Range of Pathology:
Our sites draw on a large geographic area comprised by most of Louisiana and significant parts of Arkansas and Texas. By the end of training most fellows have seen the entire spectrum of cardiovascular disease. We handle a large volume of critically ill and complex patients.
Outstanding Practice in Non-Invasive & Invasive Cardiology:
All fellows gain experience in cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and imaging as well as electrophysiology laboratories.

LSU Health Shreveport is a full-fledged academic health center with a full complement of departments and centers– including Ochsner LSU Health hospital, adjacent Biomedical Research Foundation, the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, the Regional Transplant Center, and the PET Center with onsite cyclotron. We welcome all inquiries from qualified applicants.
The Cardiovascular Disease fellowship is an accredited three-year program with twelve positionsavailable to fulfill all requirements and policies of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), and the Cardiovascular Disease Subspecialty of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). All fellows successfully completing the program will be eligible for board certification in Cardiovascular Medicine.
Application to the program is via the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS).
Selection of fellows is through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

We will only accept applications that are submitted through ERAS.

- Curriculum Vitae including personal statement
- Picture
- Copy of medical school transcript
- Four letters of recommendation; including one from the current Program Director
- ECFMG certificate
- USMLE scores (actual sheets) and a record of the number of times a step was taken
- Copy of state license (if available)

Those requiring a periodic “more urban fix” will find the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex three hours to the west on Interstate 20, with Houston and New Orleans just a little farther to the southwest and southeast.
