Research
Arteriogenesis is the process that occurs when small caliber arterioles become larger and capable of carrying much more blood flow. This process usually occurs due to increased shear rates in the arterial tree. Our R01 is focused on the effect that glutathione plays on proteins involved in the process of arteriogenesis. Preliminary data suggest that protein glutathionylation may play a role in both the inflammatory and the cellular signaling cascades responsible for artery remodeling.

Nabil Rashdan Ph.D.

Nabil has a B.S. in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, a M.S. in Molecular Genetics and Physiology, and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Biomedical Sciences. Nabil's research experience has primarily focused on vascular physiology and in particular the role of fluid shear stress and in mechanisms of mineralization. Nabil's current focus is the role of glutathionylation on the regulation of endothelial physiology, specifically VEGF receptor signaling.
An avid cloner, Nabil enjoys generating novel probe and reporter vectors.

May 2019, Boston, MA - The Pattillo Lab attended the 2019 ATVB Vascular Discovery meeting and presented two posters. Dr. Shrestha presented a poster titled "Antioxidant Glutathione Regulation of Pro-angiogenic Immune Factors During Ischemia." Dr. Rashdan presented a poster titled "Glutathione Regulates Arterial Calcification via Altered Matrix Remodeling." Well done everyone!
