Clinical Pathology

Welcome to the Clinical Pathology Division for the Department of Pathology. Dr. James Cotelingam serves as the Medical Director and Ms. Susan Dust as the Technical Director for the Division of Clinical Pathology.  The Division of Clinical Pathology has eight full time subspecialty trained and Board Certified Faculty. Oversight is provided for our Hematopathology, Wet Hematology,  Coagulation, Flow Cytometry, Blood Bank,  Apheresis, Routine and Special Chemistry and Point of Care, Lab Information, Microbiology, Virology, Parasitology, Cytogenetics, and Molecular Genetics Services.

Our professional staff pride themselves in providing timely, accurate results with direct one on one customer interactions. The clinical pathologists and section branch heads welcome every opportunity to discuss a case directly with the clinician in order to provide the patient with the highest quality care available on the market.

Our laboratories are inspected and accredited by Joint Commission and CAP. Additionally, many of our team members serve as CAP inspectors including Dr. Diana Veillon, Hematopathologist, who also served as a CAP State Commissioner. Each of our team members is highly qualified, licensed, and has many years of experience in their field of expertise. Clinical Pathology Faculty members are not only involved in clinical services, but are actively involved in educational roles and research. Expertise accrued is readily shared outside the institution in the form of numerous publications, posters, and speaking engagements.

Our mission and commitment is to diagnostic services, teaching, and research. At our daily multimodality consensus conference, clinical materials and data are reviewed and reported.  Our diagnostic services are primarily for the patients of Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, Feist-Weiller Cancer Center (FWCC), our bone marrow transplant unit, and Consultative Services on pathologic material accompanying patients referred to our facilities for a second opinion and treatment.
