Research
Dr. Sugar’s research interests primarily include breast cancer and surgery resident education. These interests align with her clinical work as a breast surgeon as well as her educational endeavors within the department of surgery as assistant program director. Dr. Sugar is involved in breast cancer trials through the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. Additionally, she has ongoing work studying cancer outcomes of Louisiana breast cancer patients and identifying effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in diagnosis of breast cancer at LSUHS; through major trials as well as regional and local studies, Dr. Sugar hopes to impact breast cancer treatment at multiple levels. Dr. Sugar’s educational research primarily focuses on identifying factors affecting resident operative experience in order to ensure continued excellence in surgical training.
