NEONATAL-PERINATAL MEDICINE FELLOWSHIP | Pediatrics
The Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship program at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport (LSUHS) is ACGME accredited for six fellowship positions over three years (two per year).
Ochsner LSU Health St. Mary Medical Center, an affiliate of LSUHS, is the primary site for the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program. A newly renovated 40-bed level 3-B NICU, a state of the art facility, will provide comprehensive training in all the domains of neonatal care, including delivery room management, care of extremely preterm infants, various modes of neonatal ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, care of neonates with surgical conditions, management of infants needing multi-disciplinary support, including pediatric sub-specialist and bedside procedures. The fellows will be working very closely with Pediatric and Medicine/Pediatric residents rotating through the NICU.
In addition to clinical obligations, Fellows in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine will be obligated to provide education, training, and supervision to rotating residents pertaining to the care of neonates with diverse clinical conditions.
A mandatory away elective rotation at Ochsner Hospital for Children, Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans is required for all the fellows to gain experience in managing neonates requiring ECMO therapy and pre and post-surgical management neonates with congenital heart diseases.

- Guide and educate fellows in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine to acquire skills and expertise to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to preterm and other neonates requiring NICU care.
- Provide a supportive and a conducive environment for fellows overall professional development and personal well-being.
- Provide diverse research opportunities in clinical, translational and basic science (perinatal and lung biology) research fields through the Neonatology division, the Pediatric department (other sub-specialties), Maternal-Fetal medicine, and LSUHS School of Medicine.
