While training at the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at LSU Health Shreveport is based primarily out of the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport (OLHS) Academic Medical Center, the program covers multiple major medical centers across the region. In the past 2 years, clinics have been added at the OLHS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Institute, Overton Brooks VA Hospital, Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, and the OLHS Academic Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana.

The Academic Medical Center is a state-of-the-art Level 1 trauma center with 430 beds, Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Neuro ICU, Neonatal ICU, Burn Unit, 20 operating room suites, Children's Hospital, 24-hour Emergency Room, Pediatric Emergency Room, 2 trauma bays, Fast Track, and Transfer Center. The hospital acts as a referral center for indigent care for more than one million people.

Ambulatory Care Center at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport

Located across the street from the academic medical center is the ACC. Our OMS residency has a 5500 square foot outpatient clinic. The clinic includes 6 operatories, a minor procedure suite, clinical laboratory, photography room, triage exam rooms, attending office, resident conference room, resident office, and radiology room with iCAT cone beam imaging. The clinic treats approximately 10,000 patients per year and offers deep sedation three days per week.

St. Mary Medical Center at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport

St. Mary Medical Center campus features several fully renovated clinics, a dedicated wing for inpatient women and children services, as well as a surgery center and diagnostic imaging center, including a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, with new, state-of-the-art equipment.  St. Mary Medical Center received a Hospital Safety Grade A for the Spring 2024 from The Leapfrog Group. This accomplishment recognizes our commitment to excellence, patient safety and quality care.

Shriner's Hospital in Shreveport was the first facility in the Shriners system in the country. The hospital combines a child-friendly environment with world-class medical care. Colorful treatment rooms, a spacious outdoor playground, and a wide range of rehabilitation activities give kids confidence and build life skills. Patients from Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma are evaluated and treated by the OMFS cleft & craniofacial team for a variety of cleft and/or craniofacial abnormalities.

In a brand new building on the Overton Brooks VA Hospital campus, the VA Dental and OMFS clinics opened in 2015. Various faculty rotate to cover the busy dentoalveolar clinic that operates 5 days a week with 2 treatment rooms. OMFS at the VA offers all treatment for veterans including facial cosmetics and dental implants free of cost. Residents rotate through the clinic to perform procedures including cosmetic rhinoplasties and blepharoplasties. The residency places hundreds of dental implants per month ranging from single-tooth, to zygomatic implants to "All-on-4."

The OMFS clinic at Rapides Regional Medical Center was opened in June 2015. The clinic is located in Alexandria, Louisiana and is staffed by a dedicated attending and rotating residents 2 days per week. There are 5 exam rooms and a radiology room with panoramic radiography. The remote location allows residents exposure to a much greater pool of patients with varied pathology and affords the resident a chance to interact with an attending on a more personal level.

The OMFS clinic at this facility was opened in September 2015. Residents and a dedicated attending travel to the medical center in Monroe, LA every Monday to staff the 4-treatment room OMFS clinic and treat patients in the fully equipped OR. Similar to Rapides, the remote location greatly increases the residency's patient pool and the more rural location allows the residents more autonomy and exposure to rare pathology.
