Dr. Yuping Wang earned her Medical Doctorate and Master of Science from Harbin Medical University in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China and her Doctorate of Philosophy from Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. She has worked as an Assistant Professor in China to a Visiting Scientist in North Carolina and now a Tenure Professor in ObGyn and Molecular and Cellular Physiology. Dr. Wang received the Young Investigator Travel award from Perinatal Research Society in 1999. Here at LSU Health Shreveport, she is on several committees and judges for Research Day for the medical students and for resident presentations. Dr. Wang’s passion is research which shows in the books, chapters in books, grants and publications she has written and been involved in throughout her career.

Dr. Cao earned a Master’s degree in 2018 and Ph.D. in 2021 from Harbin Medical University. From September 2022 to June 2025, Dr. Cao conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Human Anatomy at Harbin Medical University. Dr. Cao joined Dr. Wang’s laboratory in October 2025.

Dr. Cao works in Dr. Wang's lab and investigates the molecular mechanisms of pregnancy-associated disorders, especially preeclampsia.

Dr. Jie Xu received her PhD in Physiology at Harbin Medical University in China. She was training as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Yuping Wang at LUS Health Shreveport for a period from July 2015 to Dec 2017. Currently, she is joining Dr. Wang's lab as a postdoctoral fellow again since Jan 2024.

JIE's project focuses on understanding the pathophysiological role of placental and endothelial dysfunction in preeclampsia, a pregnancy-specific hypertensive disorder.

AREA OF SPECIALTY:
Effects of vitamin D on the placental function.
