We are developing competent, progressive physicians, future leaders in the stroke field.
We emphasize  a comprehensive approach to patient care, didactic learning, education, administration, quality improvement, clinical translational research and community outreach.

   

OUR MISSION

To provide the best possible care to patients with vascular neurologic diseases served by the primary vascular neurology team. Throughout this rotation, overall competence in patient care is to be developed that will be demonstrated in the bedside evaluation of the patient and written communication in the patient chart. The mission of our vascular neurology team is to provide qualified trainees with the academic clinical experience necessary for them to become competent and professional neurovascular specialists.

LSU Stroke Team Faculty is dedicated to protected learning environment with supportive collegial manner, providing supervision and guidance to Vascular Neurology Fellows in mastering the following six core competencies related to stroke care:

  2. Knowledge

  4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills
  5. Practice-based Learning and Improvement
  6. Systems-based Practice

Our Vascular Neurology Fellowship is an ACGME accredited (2019 original accreditation), one-year training program.

TRAINING is under the direct supervision of the Vascular Neurology Faculty. The fellow's duties will include:

  • daily clinical and neuroradiology rounds.
  • 24/7 supervision of the residents assigned to Inpatient and Consult Stroke Services.
  • outpatient experience with one half-day comprehensive stroke clinic weekly
  • q4 night/weekend acute stroke call (home-based).
  • participation in the monthly vascular neurology conference, stroke journal club, QI and research club, AHA/ASA guidelines club, Stroke M&M Conference.
  • conducting and participating in clinical trials
  • elective rotations include neuro-interventional radiology, diagnostic neuroradiology with TCD/carotid Ultrasound, clinical or/and basic science stroke research, neurocritical care, and stroke rehabilitation.
  • participation in Stroke Fighters’ Symposium and Community Outreach Project, led by LSU Stroke Team physicians with goals of providing state-wide stroke education and stroke advocacy to Louisiana medical and general communities.

HOW TO APPLY

Eligible applicants:

  • Must be BC/BE neurologists or individuals who have completed their ACGME-accredited neurology residency training by the fellowship start date.
  • Must be US citizen, permanent resident, or hold a J-1 clinical visa support available.

Applications are received and reviewed through the NRMP/ERAS match system.
