Training in our Neurology Residency takes place at several locations around Shreveport with the main location being on the LSU Health Shreveport campus at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center. A brief summary of locations can be found below.

Regional Level I Trauma Center
General Neurology and Stroke inpatient services are provided at the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center. Residents are exposed to stroke, MS exacerbations, seizures, encephalopathy, and myelopathy. They perform neurologic procedures, especially lumbar puncture, and refer patients for speech, physical and occupational therapies, and extended rehabilitation measures, home help and nursing home disposition when appropriate.

At the VA Medical Center, residents provide the best possible care to patients with a military background with neurologic diseases requiring inpatient neurology consultation. Training at this facility will allow residents to develop competence in communicating professionally with physicians requesting neurology consultation and inpatient neurology consultation.

At the OLHS St. Mary Medical Center, residents receive exposure to neurology consultations in OB/GYN and Pediatrics, participating in continuity clinics, completing consultation notes and follow-up progress notes on assigned patients, and participating in procedure clinics.
Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shreveport

Encompass Health Shreveport is a rehabilitation center designed to prepare residents to interact with and medically manage patients with disabilities. Training at this location allows for learning to improve comfort level and experience working with patients with disabilities and improve medical knowledge in the following domains: attention to biomechanics and kinesiology, secondary prevention of medical complications in the rehabilitation setting, unique medical issues in the disabled population.
