Oct, 2024- Dr. Bhuiyan project "Redox, Environmental, and Metabolomics: investigating Disease Yield (REMEDY)" was funded by Institutional Development Award (IDeA) from theNational Institutes of General Medical Sciences of the NIH under grant number P20GM121307.
Aug, 2024 - Diensn Xing started his PhD in Dr. Bhuiyan's Lab.

December, 2022 - Dr. Bhuiyan was invited to serve as a Statistical Editor for the Journal of American heart Association (JAHA). This position is competitive and selected by the chief editor to perform this role.
December, 2022 - Taymaz Akan, PhD joined Dr. Bhuiyan's Lab as a Postdoctoral fellow.
September, 2022- Dr. Bhuiyan has been selected as an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Member.
July, 2022- Abu Saleh Mosa Faisal joined Dr. Bhuiyan's Lab as a Biostatistician.
Research
Research
Dr. Bhuiyan’s laboratory research focuses on understanding the heterogeneous effects of social determinants on cardiovascular, psychiatric, and neurobehavioral health outcomes. In addition, he is working on image optimization and image processing to develop a disease progression model for Cardiovascular (e.g., cardiomyopathy and heart failure), neurodegenerative (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease), and addiction (e.g., methamphetamine and cocaine) research using machine learning and deep learning methods.

Taymaz Akan, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Taymaz Akan is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Bhuiyan's lab. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Engineering at Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey in 2019. He is experienced on image processing and optimization algorithms. His research focus is to optimize MRI images and develop disease progression model.
Fatih Gelir, PhD
Biostatistician
Fatih Gelir, PhD is a Biostatistician at Bhuiyan's lab. He received his PhD in Applied Mathematics and MS in Data Science from university of Texas at Dallas in Applied Mathematics. As a Biostatistician, he has extensive experience in both statistical methodology as well as existing methods. He has also hand on experience in application of statistical and machine learning methods in a wide range of research field. He is working on developing mathematical models for disease progression.
Diensn Xing
Diensn Xing is a dedicated MD-PhD student with a background in biological engineering, having previously researched breast cancer as an undergraduate at LSU A&M. He has a strong interest in internal medicine and population health and has already contributed to peer-reviewed publications highlighting the trends in demographic disparities in mental health and substance use disorders. Recognized for both academic excellence and leadership, he has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. Beyond the lab, Diensn provides primary care at a community health clinic weekly, demonstrating his commitment to service and direct patient care. Outside of medicine, he enjoys volleyball, making music, and competitive esports, reflecting his diverse interests and holistic approach to life.
