The challenges we face are not unique to Northwest Louisiana but are seen across the state. Louisiana currently holds the #1 spot for Chlamydia and ranks #3 for Gonorrhea nationwide, a very concerning situation. As a commissioner on the Louisiana Commission on HIV and Hepatitis C Education, Prevention, and Treatment, established by the legislature, we advise the Governor, the Louisiana Department of Health, and the legislature on matters related to these sexually transmitted diseases. To the best of our knowledge, our clinic is the only PrEP clinic in the region, dedicated specifically to prevent HIV. Unfortunately, there is still significant stigma and other barriers that prevent individuals from seeking PrEP. Please take a moment to read the latest news from our department on how you can support yourself and others in your community with prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
