We, the Hematology / Oncology Fellows, would like to tell you a little about our training program, the friendly culture we are committed to sustaining, and the community in which we serve.

The culture for patient care and learning here is unmatched.

Our Fellowship Program

We have a diverse and friendly group of fellows who work together as a collaborative and cohesive unit serving a highly diverse patient population in Northwest Louisiana. This collegiality for each other and our clinical teams extends to providing compassionate care for our patients and their families. Current and former fellows take pride in the camaraderie that exists in our training program and remain connected long after training. Our program is three years in length and fully accredited by the ACGME.

Why Train at LSU Health Shreveport?

We have developed an integrated curriculum which incorporates clinical learning along with case-based interactive and didactic conferences. Our clinical training takes place in a variety of settings which include the Outpatient Hematology/Oncology Clinics, Inpatient Consult Services (at Ochsner LSUHS and at the VA hospital) and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.

► Our didactics curriculum is rigorous and includes:

  • an interactive, case-based Management Conference
  • Morbidity and Mortality Conferences
  • Journal Clubs
  • Research Conferences to support scholarly activity

Additionally, we have weekly core curriculum which comprises of daily lectures given by faculty and senior fellows which makes our program unique. Additionally, fellows actively participate in Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards along with other services to provide excellent patient care. Our fellows participate in clinical research in a big way, and present their research at departmental research conferences, institutional and national meetings. Speaking of which, fellow attendance and participation at national conferences such as ASCO and ASH is supported, with each fellow getting the opportunity to attend at least one national conference of their choice per year. Our program also provides fellows with multiple resources for board preparation and boasts of an excellent ABIM board pass rate.

It is important to us to create an environment that provides high quality patient care and learning culture where fellows feel comfortable asking questions as they develop their knowledge and skills, enjoy the work that they do and the people they work with.

Our Fellow Wellness Program ensures that fellows maintain a positive outlook and focus on their personal wellbeing in addition to their professional development. Our fellows and faculty have monthly departmental events to enjoy each others’ company. At our wellness events, we go out to nearby eateries, participate in fun activities such as axe throwing, painting or enjoying the great outdoors. All elements combined, our program is designed to prepare it’s fellows well for a career as a well-balanced practitioner whether they choose to go into academics, private practice or research.

Our faculty are friendly, approachable and very involved in the education of fellows as well as the residents and medical students that rotate with us. Meet our faculty >>
