Salary for PGY 1 - $ 55,972.50

Moonlighting: In-house moonlighting is not available.

Vacation: Up to 4 weeks annually.

CME:  PGY-1   $300.00
Receive per year in CME Funds/Textbook funds which may be used for textbooks, travel, lodging and/or conference registration fees. An additional CME Bonus of $500 will be awarded to any resident scoring at the 75th percentile or above on the annual ABFM In-Training Examination.  The Program pays the ABFM In-Training examination fee of $50.  Up to $2,500.00 is also provided for Board Review Courses.

Required Certifications:  All incoming residents will be required to have current ACLS, PALS, BLS, and NRP cards.  This may be accomplished by taking the "HeartCode" classes on-line in advance of orientation.  With a certificate indicating successful completion of the classes, in-person check-offs will be performed by faculty and education department staff during orientation.  In some instances live classes may be made available during orientation and, in this case, all incoming residents will be invited to attend these in lieu of the on-line training.  The program will reimburse for the cost of these on-line trainings and onsite check-off is free.  If live programs are offered, they will be provided free of cost to the residents as well.

Parking: Convenient parking facilities are provided to all resident physicians at the hospital at no charge.

License Fees: Louisiana State Medical License fees are paid for all residents, $482.00.

Membership Dues: Membership dues are paid for all residents to the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians and the Ouachita Parish Medical Society, $80.00.

Subscriptions/Clinical Tools:  The Program purchases UpToDate, Epocrates, and AAFP Essentials for each resident, $454.00, to supplement the electronic resources and mobile applications provided by the Medical Library.

LSU Health Shreveport offers a variety of healthcare benefit options; residents may purchase selected healthcare insurance as part of the benefits package at greatly reduced rates. A pension plan is also provided and is fully transferable upon completion of training.

The base salary and benefits are determined by the Louisiana State Legislature on an annual basis and apply to all state-funded programs throughout Louisiana.  Residents in our program receive additional incentives through our supporting hospital, Rapides Regional Medical Center, which can be discussed individually with applicants.
