Chief Residents Message
On behalf of the all the residents and faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology at LSU Health Shreveport, we would like to be the first to welcome you and thank you for your interest in our residency program. Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport is the only Level-1 Trauma Center located in The Ark-LA-Tex area. We are accredited by the ACGME and have most recently been given continuous accreditation for an unprecedented 10-year cycle. Each academic year we offer 8 categorical spots for a total of 32 residents.
During the CA-1 year, the resident will provide care for a wide variety of surgical cases as they become more proficient and hone in on their clinical skills while building their knowledge base.
As the resident advances into the CA-2 and CA-3 years, they will be exposed to increasingly complex cases: including obstetric, vascular, cardiovascular, transplant, pediatric, and neurosurgical cases to refine their technique even further.
Training sites include Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center, Overton Brooks Veteran’s Association Hospital, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, and Willis Knighton Health System. All the facilities are within a ten-minute commute from LSU Health Shreveport. The outside rotations allow for a broad clinical experience, and for anesthetists to experience the varying perspectives and dynamics among institutions ranging from governmental, academia, and private practice.
Our attending faculty actively supports all fellowship and research endeavors. Residents have matched at institutions such as The Ohio State University, Rush University, Boston University, University of Florida, Oschner Medical Center, University of Arkansas, University of Minnesota, UT Southwestern, and University of Cincinnati as well as many others. Upon completion of your residency, you will be well prepared to pursue elite fellowship opportunities, begin a career in academic anesthesia, or begin a career in private practice.
Once again, welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology at LSU Health Shreveport. If you have any questions or would like any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to meeting you!
