Dr. Alan Kaye, Professor of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neurosciences at LSUHS has been chosen as the 2022 recipient of the prestigious Racz Excellence Award by the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) given to one physician annually.
We are located in the Northwest corner of Louisiana in a tri-state area known as the Ark-La-Tex, and we serve as a tertiary and quaternary referral center. This provides an excellent environment for clinical development and has helped us earn a regional reputation for the education of fellows, residents, medical school students, and student registered nurse anesthetists.
Charles Fox, MD
Our department started the first Anesthesiology Fellowship in the state of Louisiana. The resident didactic series includes: weekly level specific lecture series’, M & M conferences, Grand Rounds, Patient Case Presentations, mock oral board examinations, and Journal Club. These didactics ensure that our residents receive sufficient board examination preparation. Our simulation center provides the latest technology for educational training of medical students, residents, and fellows. Additionally, we offer our residents an option to complete a Master’s in Business Administration from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. We are committed to providing innovative programs to develop management skills and future leaders in our specialty. To keep pace with our evolving specialty, our graduates will be required to achieve clinical efficiency while maximizing patient outcomes.
Residents work closely with our Attending Physician’s in a collegial and tutorial academic environment. Clinical experience covers ambulatory, cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, ENT, obstetric, pediatric, trauma, and vascular surgery cases. Residents also gain experience acute pain, regional anesthesia, chronic pain, and critical care. Lastly, our residents rotate through the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center and Shriners Hospital for Children. We support clinical and basic research by encouraging all residents to work with research coordinators on departmental projects as early as possible. Investigative and case presentation projects frequently result in opportunities for resident presentations at regional or national meetings.
"We are fortunate to be part of a world class university, a thriving medical school, and a campus community which serves as the economic engine for the region. As you consider your future, we hope you will explore our website and become more familiar with our commitment to excellence in clinical practice, education, and research."
