Welcome to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology

Our mission is:
  • To train graduate students in how to perform independent research, to interpret and communicate  scientific findings, and to prepare grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.
  • To educate future physicians in the disciplines of Microbiology and Immunology so that they can be prepared to provide excellent care to patients

Our faculty members maintain NIH-funded research programs directed at understanding important issues related to viruses, bacteria, and the immune system.  We are experiencing an unprecedented expansion, including the addition of new faculty members, the doubling of our postdoctoral program, the award of more than $22.9 million by an NIH grant to establish and maintain the Center for Molecular and Tumor Virology, and the growth of our nationally recognized training program for graduate students.

The Department is in a period of significant expansion and has several open positions in the following categories.

The faculty members within the Department frequently have positions available for doctoral graduates with experience and training in a variety of disciplines in molecular biology, virology, bacteriology, immunology, pathogenesis, and related areas (see Faculty Listing).

The Department frequently has open positions for research associates and technical staff to assist in ongoing research in a variety of ongoing projects in molecular biology, virology, bacteriology, immunology, pathogenesis, and related areas.
