Faculty members working within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Louisiana State University Health Shreveport School of Medicine conduct research on the biochemical and molecular bases of disease (cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders), cell signaling cascades, epigenetics and enzymology. Areas of faculty research include aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, cell cycle and DNA repair, epigenetics, gene regulation, molecular biology, signal transduction mechanisms, prostate cancer, melanoma, Parkinson’s disease, GABA, natural products and high throughput methods for therapeutic discovery.  Faculty members take pride in their extensive research collaborations with the school’s other academic and clinical departments and with investigators at other institutions in the U.S. and in other countries. Faculty are funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense and from private agencies.
