Admissions Criteria

The LSU Health Shreveport BS Medical Laboratory Science Program accepts applications for admission via the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS). Applicants should send all application materials directly to AHCAS. Applicants should NOT send any application documents directly to the Program or LSU Health Shreveport.

The following are minimum admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science Program:

1. Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

2. Grade of "C" or better in required pre-requisite courses.

3. Pre-requisite courses earned from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university by the first day of class:

English (Composition) 6
Chemistry (General / Inorganic - Lecture and Laboratory) 8

Mathematics (College Algebra or above)
Recommended: Algebra and Statistics (Statistics must be from Math Department)

Biology (General - Consecutive Lecture and Laboratory for Science Majors) 8
Microbiology (Lecture and Laboratory) 4
Science Elective (200/2000 level or higher) 

Recommended: Anatomy/Physiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, Parasitology, Advanced/Medical Microbiology


General Electives
Recommended: Communications, Technical Writing, or Management


Fine Arts Electives
Recommended: Art, Dance, Music, or Theater


Recommended: History, English, Philosophy, or Religious Studies.

4. After initial processing of applications, selected applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview.

5. Accepted students must certify that they meet the technical standards established by the program with or without reasonable accommodations.
