Arts in Medicine
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center’s unique Arts in Medicine (AIM) program gives cancer patients the opportunity to paint during treatment.
The process of painting is the most important part of the program for the patients and is the main reason painting is offered by the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. The resulting paintings, however, are a delight in themselves and strongly display the sense of community of a shared illness among the various artists who participate. Over 280 pieces have been produced and are displayed throughout Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, LSU Health Shreveport and sites throughout the city. Projects consist of a drawing sketched across multiple 8-inch by 10-inch grids. These are numbered for colors and patients then paint by number. The grids are assembled into the finished project and framed with the names of all the participants. Arts in Medicine has touched the lives of hundreds of cancer patients and their families just in the last year.
Arts in Medicine is supported by LSU Health Shreveport along with grants from arts organizations, area businesses and private individuals. Donations are always appreciated. Please contact Margo Clendenin at (318) 813-1065 or mclendenin@lsuhsfoundation.org to make a donation.
