ARTS IN MEDICINE | Feist-Weiller Cancer Center
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center’s unique Arts in Medicine (AIM) program gave cancer patients the opportunity to paint during treatment.
The resulting paintings by the patients are a delight in themselves and strongly display the sense of community of a shared illness among the various artists who participated. Over 280 pieces were produced and are displayed throughout Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, LSU Health Shreveport and sites throughout the city.
Projects consisted of a drawing sketched across multiple 8-inch by 10-inch grids. These were numbered for colors and patients then painted by number. The grids were assembled into the finished project and framed with the names of all the participants. Arts in Medicine has touched the lives of hundreds of cancer patients and their families.
Arts in Medicine was supported by LSU Health Shreveport along with grants from arts organizations, area businesses and private individuals.
