Who We Are

The high-risk cancer clinic, located within the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, provides specialized care for individuals with an increased risk for cancer. Our multidisciplinary team focuses on risk reduction, early detection, personalized prevention strategies.

What We Offer

  • Evidence-based cancer prevention
  • Personalized risk assessment
  • Ongoing and long-term monitoring
  • Education and support for patients and families

Who Should Be Seen

You may benefit from an evaluation if you have:

  • A family member diagnosed with cancer at age 50 or younger
  • A personal or family history of ovarian cancer
  • A history of rare or unusual cancers in the family
  • Multiple relatives on the same side of the family with related cancers
  • A known cancer gene mutation:  Genes are like instructions in your body. A mutation means one of those instructions has changed. Some changes are harmless, but others can increase the chance of developing cancer.
  • Atypical hyperplasia or LCIS: These are non-cancerous breast changes that increase the risk of developing breast cancer, so closer monitoring is recommended.
  • Adenomatous polyps
  • Prior chest radiation
  • Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, which may increase genetic cancer risk

What To Expect

At your first visit to the High-Risk Cancer Clinic, you will undergo a comprehensive cancer risk assessment with Dr. Sindhu Devarashetty, Director of the High-Risk Cancer Clinic and Assistant Professor of Medicine (Hematology / Oncology). Based on your personal and family history, genetic testing may be recommended, with follow-up consultation with a genetic counselor scheduled on a separate day depending on your results.

After a complete evaluation, a personalized cancer risk assessment and management plan will be developed, which may include tailored screening strategies and appropriate referrals for further evaluation. Ongoing follow-up visits will help ensure your care plan is regularly updated and optimized for your individual risk.
