Advanced Tests

Molecular testing is rapidly becoming the method of choice to provide the best tests for old and new diseases. Molecular medicine is changing that paradigm, as molecular markers become increasingly important for understanding disease biology, selecting and validating targets, and assessing the efficacy and safety of compounds under development.

Concepts such as molecular remission, minimal residual disease, genetic susceptibility to disease and therapeutic monitoring of molecular endpoints are now standard of care.  Interpretation of these complex endpoints, correlated with other clinical findings, adds a new dimension to patient care.

Molecular Pathology

Feist-Weiller Cancer Center works in close cooperation with the Molecular Pathology Laboratory. This lab is advancing optimal patient care using an integrated, multidisciplinary approach. Patients benefit from the comprehensive diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic information generated by state-of-the-art diagnostic testing and consultative services.

Molecular Pathology is the study of disease and chromosomal abnormalities at the molecular level to aid in diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic intervention of disease processes. There are three areas of testing that includes genetics, hematopathology, and infectious disease. Our Molecular Pathology laboratory specializes in the areas of genetics and hematopathology.

Lab Tests

Flow Cytometry, Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization (FISH), DNA Analysis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Molecular Pharmacogenomics, Microarray Analysis, Molecular Genetics, and Cytogenetics.

Academia Affiliation

As an academic institution, our Center of Excellence extends to education, patient care services, research, and community outreach. The Molecular Pathology Laboratory elevates cancer diagnostics by delivering critical information and services needed to meet the challenge of molecular medicine.

Personal Service

Our recently redesigned laboratory contains the latest in technologically advanced equipment and offers new tests on a continuous basis. Please check our on-line test listing or call our laboratory to determine new testing availability. University Health has highly qualified staff to assist you with any question in this area.

Histopathology Research Laboratory

The Histopathology Research Laboratory is a state of-the-art facility established with support from Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and the Department of Pathology as part of collaborative efforts to provide quality, timely, and need-based histology service to the entire research community at University Health. The laboratory is equipped with specialized, automated, high-output equipment, and is staffed with full-time histology technicians and a senior-level, board-certified pathologist dedicated to promoting and facilitating research. The lab is also happy to serve investigators outside the LSUHSCS community.
