The University Police Department (UPD) consists of the Patrol Division and the Special Services Division.  The department provides police and security services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to all LSU Health patients, visitors, staff, faculty, and students.  These services consist of information, parking assistance, escort service, and police protective and investigative services.  University Police Officers are sworn and commissioned police officers with full range of police powers and are empowered to make arrests in matters concerning felonies and misdemeanors.  Police officers are responsible for a full range of public safety services, including crime reports, investigations, medical and fire emergencies, traffic accidents, parking violations, enforcement of laws regulating alcoholic beverage consumption, the use of controlled substances, weapons and all other incidents requiring police assistance.  Guards who secure parking lots provide information and assistance to patients and visitors.  Communications Officers support both the University Police and Guards by monitoring the fire and security alarm systems and directing officers to trouble areas.
