Dr. David Gross, professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has been awarded a 4-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a project entitled "Genome Architecture and Gene Control in Response to Stress." The goal of Dr. Gross’s project is to understand how the structure and three-dimensional arrangement of stress-responsive ‘HSP’ genes within the cell’s nucleus help protect cells from the damaging, occasionally lethal, effects of exposure to high temperature, chemicals, oxidants or heavy metals. The project commences August 2020.
