Please join me in welcoming Qiang Cai, MD, PhD, our new Chairman of Gastroenterology, to LSU Health Shreveport. Dr Cai joins us from Emory University School of Medicine where he was Professor of Medicine, Master Clinician, and the Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship.
Dr Cai received his bachelor’s degree from Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang, Jiangxi, PR China and master’s degree from Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, PR China. He pursued his PhD at Cornell University. Qiang performed his residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Joseph's Hospital, University of Wisconsin prior to engaging in his Fellowship in the Division of Digestive Diseases, Emory University School of Medicine. He remained at Emory University rising to the rank of Full Professor.
Dr Cai is active in the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, having served on the Annual Scientific Program Committee culminating as Chair in 2016. He is a charter member of the American Gastroenterological Association’s Academy of Educators and a member of the American College of Gastroenterology’s Self Assessment Test Sub-Committee and International Relationship Committee among others. While he is active on many journals, he serves as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Gastroenterology. His many teaching awards include the Mentor for Outstanding Research Award for Trainee—Interventional Endoscopy from American College of Gastroenterology. He has published over 100 peer reviewed publications, 3 books, and has a large number of presentations and abstracts.
Qiang brings focused and unique expertise in endoscopic mucosal resection, Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Pyloromyotomy (GPOEM) for Refractory Gastroparesis, EUS-guided cystogastrostomy and specialized pancreatic therapies.
The Department of Medicine will be hosting a welcome reception for Dr Cai, as current covid guidelines allow, in the next few weeks.
