Ryan Mackay, MD-PhD Student, receives prestigious NIH Award

Ryan Mackay, MD-PhD Student has been awarded an F30 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award from the NIH. The award is designed to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising predoctoral students who are in MD-PhD Programs. Ryan is the first student at LSU Health Shreveport to receive this prestigious award.

Ryan grew up in Columbus, Mississippi and completed his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He majored in Physiology & Developmental Biology and minored in Mathematics. Presently, Ryan is investigating induction of DNA damage and angiogenic processes as targets for anaplastic thyroid cancer treatment in Dr. Christopher Pattillo’s Laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology.
