Remembering the lives of Dr. Adrian Dunn and Dr. Brent Reed

We are saddened to share the news of the recent passing of two former School of Graduate Studies faculty members.

Brent C. Reed, PhD, Associate Professor of Biochemistry, recently passed away. Dr. Reed was a faculty member at LSU Health Shreveport for over 33 years. He retired from LSUHS in 2021. His research focus was cellular functions of GLUT1CBP(GIPC). Historically, his lab was interested in identifying structural domains and protein interactions that confer the characteristic transport kinetics, membrane targeting, and insulin responsiveness that differentiate the behavior of the homologous glucose transporters, and his most recent work focused on examining the function of GLUT1CBP in regulating the distribution and movement of GLUT1 and other interacting proteins within the cell. No memorial service was held at Dr. Reed’s request. If you would like to share a memory of Dr. Reed or send condolences to his wife, Jeanne, cards can be mailed to 342 Albany Ave., Shreveport, LA 71105. Jeanne has graciously offered to gift LSU Health Shreveport with nature photography images taken by Dr. Reed that can be displayed on campus in his honor.

Adrian J. Dunn, PhD, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience (1988 – 2005) and Boyd Professor (2003-2007) passed away Monday, May 9, of dementia. Dr. Dunn was a faculty member at LSU Health Shreveport for 19 years and was an LSU Boyd Professor of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience. He received this esteemed honor on February 21, 2003, and he holds the distinction of being one of only four Boyd Professorships awarded to an LSU Health Shreveport faculty member in the history of our institution. Dr. Dunn left LSUHS in 2007 when he accepted a position at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he served as a Professor of Psychology and member of the faculty of the Pacific Biosciences Research Center until his retirement a few years ago. Dr. Dunn will not have a formal memorial service, but his family is having a visitation at Osborn Funeral Home on Monday, May 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. All LSUHS faculty and staff are invited to attend. Donations in his memory may be made to The Bridge Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center, PO Box 4038, Shreveport, LA 71134, or to a charity of your choice.

The work of Dr. Dunn and Dr. Reed will live on through the countless students and post-docs that they taught throughout their careers. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families during this difficult time.
