AMA - LSUHS has required residents to participate in the AMA GME Competency Education Program for several years, but last year they took a step back to consider how they might be able to make the experience more impactful for residents.

Beginning in the summer of 2024, the LSUHS School of Allied Health Professions will offer a Bachelor of Science in Cardiovascular Technology (BS-CVT). The school is currently accepting applications for the first cohort of eight students. 

The Association of Departments of Family Medicine recently recognized Dr. Peter Seidenberg, Chair and Professor of Family Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport, for his role in shaping the future of family medicine research. 

The 2023 LSUHS Historically Black Colleges and Universities Educational Conference is being held November 9 - 11 on the LSUHS campus with 66 students representing thirteen HBCUs.

Megan Flavin, PT, DPT, OCS, TPS, has been named Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs for LSUHS School of Allied Health Professions. Dr. Flavin is an experienced physical therapist and educator with over seven years of practice and over six years of teaching experience.

Dr. Cherie-Ann Nathan concluded her 2-year Presidency of Academic Chairs of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery with the combined SUO, AADO, OPDO Annual Meeting, November 3-4, 2023, in Washington, DC.

Louisiana Economic Development - LSU Health Shreveport scientists have discovered a promising new treatment for prostate cancer and developed a playbook detailing how to track viral variants in underserved areas.

Mohammad Alfrad Nobel Bhuiyan, PhD, has been named the Director of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at LSUHS. He will be responsible for coordinating research activities related to biostatistics and computational biology across all three professional schools.

American Society for Microbiology -  The ASM has selected Dr. Andrew Yurochko, LSUHS Professor of Microbiology & Immunology, for their 2023-24 roster of Distinguished Lecturers. Lecturers are chosen through a competitive nomination process and only the most distinguished lecturers and researchers are chosen to participate.

Webtimes.UK - Dr. Jeremy Kamil, Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at LSUHS shares, "I’d rather have people complaining that we’re not naming enough than that we’re naming too many. It’s like if you sound a fire alarm all the time, people will stop evacuating the building quickly.”

The recent site visit and AAHRPP reaccreditation indicates that LSUHS adheres to the highest ethical and professional standards for human research protection and participation.

KTAL 6 - LSU Health Shreveport and Loxo@Lilly partnered together for a study called Next-Generation Sequencing (NSG), a powerful DNA decoder, to better determine if removing insurance barriers improves treatment plans.

Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, a Center of Excellence in Cancer Research, Treatment and Education at LSUHS and Loxo@Lilly, the oncology unit of Eli Lilly and Company, recently launched a new research collaboration that will provide next-generation sequencing (NGS) access to underserved cancer patients in the northern Louisiana region.

318 Forum - Currently, there are over 1,570 board-certified and licensed Physician Assistants / Associates practicing in Louisiana. PAs in our state work in all primary care and specialty fields, most commonly in surgical fields and urgent care.

LSUHS Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid, LaTora Green, was honored with the New Orleans City Council Proclamation on behalf of the Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (LASFAA) at their annual conference on October 11, 2023.

KTAL 6 - Southwood High School seniors get the opportunity to explore the medical field away from the classroom and in a lab with a mentor through the BioStart program at LSUHS.

KTBS 3 - Six students in the Biotechnology Magnet Academy (BTA) at Southwood High School are spending this semester conducting research at LSUHS. The interns spend three hours a day in a lab learning research methods and laboratory techniques.

KTBS3 - "The best data that I’ve seen is that around four to five percent of people will experience symptoms even after four months," said Dr. John Vanchiere, LSUHS Associate Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases.
